We make every attempt to OFA Health Test all of Our Dogs and co-owned dogs.
We Have all of the Health Certificates on File, even if all Results are Not Posted on the www.offa.org website. The OFA website does not always reflect every test/date completed. The links below are to the health testing registries that we used.

It is suggested by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, that OFA Health Tests for Great Danes begin at the age of 12 months. Hip x-rays are preliminary only, under the age of 2 and a CHIC cannot be awarded until that time.

****Please note: OFA health testing is not fool-proof... Sarge is an example of this... His rear construction is extremely bad, to the point that he is unable to sit down. However, he received an OFA Excellent for hips. The hip x-ray test does not take into consideration genetic ligament & tendon abnormalities... it only looks at the ball & socket.......... in addition to the above, poor Sarge bloated at 9 months and had numerous bone/growth issues. He still has digestive problems and takes special care. Obviously, this is not a dog that you would want to breed. We would not breed him or recommend breeding as there are most likely genetic components involved. We love him dearly and he is the sweetest soul on the planet.
Grace - Ch. Heritage Hills' Classic Design
No health testing has been done on this girl because the co-owner that the dog lives with refused to health test and even though the co-owner promised the breeder that this dog would be health tested; it still has not been done yet. The breeder stated to us several times that she would really like the co-owner to live up to her agreement and health test this dog. Unfortunately, the breeder has serious health issues and is too ill to be able to support us to make it happen. (because after several requests, the co-owner has still refused, so, to make it happen might require litigation). We feel terrible for the breeder that this co-owner has not followed through with agreements.
Obviously, we will not be using this girl in our breeding program. She is now spayed.
Neet Danes WILL pursue the health testing of all dogs that come from our breeding program. We insist on it for both the show & companion puppies. Below, is our Rationale:
If only the Danes that are going to be bred are health tested, and the companion siblings are not health tested, then the breeder loses the opportunity to learn if there are carriers of genetic diseases in the line. For example:
A show dog can be health tested with good results. No evidence of any genetic disease such as Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), autoimmune thyroiditis, hip displaysia or cataracts. Great! However, one of the siblings could have one of the above genetic diseases. If the sibling is not health tested, but DOES have a genetic disease, it would not be known until bad health begins to occur in the affected sibling. Health testing the affected sibling would provide an opportunity for early treatment to the dog and either save its life or assist with making the dog more comfortable. The show sibling that tested well, could in fact be a carrier of the same terrible genetic disease that the affected sibling had. Testing the companion sibling and learning that the dog is affected might assist a breeder in making better breeding decisions. Because, if the show dog IS a carrier, then the breeder might reconsider breeding the show dog. The offspring could possibly be affected and the puppies could have tremendous health issues and could potentially die. Only by testing the siblings would this type of important information be made available to the breeder and this is one way to breed better, healthier dogs. It also saves heartbreak for potential puppy owners.
We care about the health of our breed.
