We make every attempt to OFA Health Test all of Our Dogs and co-owned dogs.

We Have all of the Health Certificates on File, even if all Results are Not Posted on the www.offa.org website. We also repeat certain health tests as suggested by the OFA for all Great Danes.   The OFA website does not always reflect every test/date  completed.  It is suggested by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, that OFA Health Tests for Great Danes begin at the age of 12 months.  Hip x-rays are preliminary only, under the age of 2 and a CHIC cannot be awarded until that time.

****Please note:  OFA health testing is not fool-proof... Sarge is an example of this... His rear construction is extremely bad, to the point that he is unable to sit down.  However, he received an OFA Excellent for hips.  The hip x-ray test does not take into consideration genetic ligament & tendon abnormalities... it only looks at the ball & socket.......... in addition to the above, poor Sarge bloated at 9 months and had numerous bone/growth issues.  He still has digestive problems and takes special care.  Obviously, this is not a dog that you would want to breed.  We would not breed him or recommend breeding as there are most likely genetic components involved.  We love him dearly and he is the sweetest soul on the planet.
